9-Day Migration Safari – River Crossing August to October

This ideal route was created with the great wildebeest migration in mind. It leads us right to the center of this magnificent earthly event. We are given the chance to experience the expansive Serengeti plains over the course of four nights on the Serengeti. Additionally, we get to spend a few days viewing the great migration, which can be seen from August to October in the Serengeti’s northern tip.

Day by Day Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in Arusha

Upon arrival at the airport, our representative will pick you up and drive you to your lodging in Arusha, where you will spend the night, unwind, and get ready for the wildebeest migration experience .

Accommodation: Ilboru Safari Lodge.
Meal & Drinks: Breakfast (Lunch & dinner not included) Drinks not included.

Day 2: Tarangire National Park

Your private safari guide will collect you from your Arusha accommodations in the morning, and you’ll travel on a smooth tarmac road through rolling Maasai plains with acacia trees. Along the way, you’ll see Maasai people in vibrant clothing tending to their cattle, riding bicycles, and pulling donkey carts. Tarangire National Park, famous for its large elephant herds, awaits. From your safari jeep’s open roof, this is the best safari where you’ll spot a variety of wildlife in the seasonal swamps, savanna, and along the Tarangire River. Expect to see buffalo, giraffe, wildebeest, zebra, and maybe even lions and leopards. After an extensive game drive, head to your lodging for dinner and an overnight stay.

Accommodation: Eileen’s Trees Inn
Meals & Drinks: All meals included plus Drinking Water

Day 3: Serengeti National Park

After breakfast, we’ll proceed to the highlands where corn and wheat are cultivated by the Iraqw people. The journey will take us through the Ngorongoro Conservation Area’s misty rainforests, where you may encounter baboons, elephants, or leopards lurking in the dense foliage. The Ngorongoro Crater’s stunning vista can be admired as we drive through the conservation area before arriving at Serengeti National Park around noon. This vast park, Tanzania’s largest, boasts diverse habitats and landscapes, including plains, lakes, swamps, and savannahs. Following an extensive game drive, you’ll retire to your lodging for dinner and an overnight stay.

Accommodation: Embalakai Camp
Meals & Drinks: All meals included plus Drinking Water

Day 4: North Serengeti Migration

Our morning game drive takes us to the Northern Serengeti, a gently rolling area of isolated hills, small rivers, and kopjes stretching about 100 km from Seronera. This region has a diverse permanent wildlife population and striking geological features, including Lobo Kopje. It’s less visited due to its distance from the park’s main entry point. In August, the wildebeest migration passes through this region, presenting a chance to witness an impressive river crossing. We’ll end the day at our lodging, enjoying dinner and spending the night under the magnificent African sky on the “Endless Plain.”

Accommodation: Mara River Camp
Meals & Drinks: All meals included plus Drinking Water

Day 5: Serengeti Crossing

You will leave after a leisurely breakfast in order to maximize the day. You might catch a glimpse of the wildebeest migration crossing the Mara River. Hundreds of thousands of frightened wildebeest congregate on the river’s banks, staring longingly across the choppy water at the lush grass on the other side, but no animal moves. All it takes is for one bold wildebeest to literally jump in, and the rest will follow! Animals that successfully cross the river and avoid the waiting crocodile jaws are rewarded with the lush Masai Mara grazing grass.

Accommodation: Mara River Camp
Meals & Drinks: All meals included plus Drinking Water

Day 6: North to Central Serengeti

After breakfast, you’ll head back to Seronera and have more chances to take in the Serengeti’s amazing wildlife and scenic beauty.
The resident predators, such as lions, leopards, and cheetahs, may be visible in addition to the wildebeest migration, playing their part in the cycle of life.
We will return to our lodging after a lengthy game drive for a hearty dinner and another night by the fire. We will unwind and chat while enjoying the expansive majesty and experience of the best africa safari night on the “Endless Plain.”

Accommodation: Embalakai Camp
Meals & Drinks: All meals included plus Drinking Water

Day 7: Central Serengeti to Ngorongoro Conservation Area

After breakfast, you’ll go on another amazing Serengeti game drive before going to the Ngorongoro Crater. You’ll get your first look at what awaits you the following day when you arrive at the crater’s edge in the late afternoon. Watch out for the endless number of animals, the sparkling streams, and the wide-open grasslands. On the crater’s rim, close by lodge will be where you spend the night.

Accommodation: Rhino Lodge
Drinks & meals: All included plus Drinking Water

Day 8: Ngorongoro Crater

Early in the morning after breakfast, we’ll depart for an unforgettable day of wildlife observation on the Ngorongoro Crater floor, formed three million years ago by a massive volcanic explosion. The caldera, a closed ecosystem, is 610 meters deep and 260 square kilometers, named after the bells on Maasai cows’ necks. Spot the big five, wildebeest, gazelles, reedbuck, 500 bird species, and more. We’ll stop for a picnic lunch by the hippo lake and ascend the steep road out in the late afternoon. Spend the night in Karatu, a nearby town.

Accommodation: Eileen’s Trees Inn
Meals & Drinks: All meals included plus Drinking Water

Day 9: Lake Manyara National Park to Arusha

Drive to Lake Manyara National Park, the final destination of our safari, after breakfast. This diverse park, 120 kilometers west of Arusha, is named after a shallow salt lake covering 70% of the surface area, home to thousands of flamingos and 500 bird species. Spot giraffes, zebras, wildebeest, elephants, buffalo, monkeys, and maybe even tree-lounging lions as you traverse cliffs covered in baobab trees, open grassy plains, and woodland habitats. After lunch, return to Arusha, arriving late in the afternoon.
